Erythema Nodosum Following EBV Infection in a Child

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is one of the eight known human herpesviruses, which widespread in nature and infects most world population. In infants young children, primary infection usually asymptomatic or produces an acute illness that often not recognized as being due to EBV. It has a well-established oncogenic potential, been implicated pathogenesis various autoimmune diseases. Here reported case 32-months old boy, who presented with history two days low-grade fever, pain both legs, swollen ankles inability walk. On physical examination, child appeared moderately ill, without fever. shins were observed nodules 2 - 3 cm diameter, red bluish color, firm poorly demarcated. Clinically, diagnosis Erythema nodosus was performed. Laboratory examinations revealed increased inflammatory parameters. After full workup, EBV established causative agent. nodosum common form panniculitis children; however, it relatively uncommon pediatric self-limited disease, infectious origin children. Although uncommon, potential cause erythema nodosum.
